Colleen Goidel, Labor and Postpartum Doula, Birthing From Within Mentor

Becoming a labor and postpartum doula was my goal since the birth of my two daughters, who are now college graduates. My passion is to help women have a safe, positive birth and postpartum experience, empowered by knowledge and informed consent. I am a DONA-certified labor doula, a CAPPA-certified postpartum doula, a breastfeeding educator, and a childbirth education mentor for Birthing From Within.

As a mother of two, I discovered much about childbirth and breastfeeding through my own experiences. As a certified, experienced doula, I’m skilled at supporting pregnant and laboring women and their partners, whether their goal is an unmedicated birth or a medically assisted birth, at home or in the hospital. I strive to help each woman feel a sense of contentment, satisfaction and connection with her birth and her baby, regardless of the path labor takes.

Testimonial: "My husband and I met Colleen at a doula meet and greet, and she immediately stood out to us as knowledgable and friendly.  When the day of labor arrived, Colleen was with us the entire day. She encouraged me, reminded me of the pain coping techniques that I had learned, and she was great at working with my husband and the midwives.  Colleen made my natural childbirth experience a wonderful one, and I am so pleased with my decision to have Colleen as my doula.  After my son was born, Colleen texted, called, and visited me to make sure my family was doing well.  Through this experience, Colleen was not only my doula, but she became a dear friend."  (Kelly W.)

Jessica Scarborough, Birth and Postpartum Doula, Childbirth Educator

Jessica and her husband are loving parents to five beautiful children.  Her journey to becoming a Doula started while she was pursuing her RN degree. She had begun to feel like nursing wasn’t the direction she wanted to take in life, and began searching for careers in childbirth. As she searched, she came across the term “Doula”. The more she read the more she fell in love! Jessica had found her calling in life! As She worked through her training at Doula Training International, she decided to also pursue becoming a Childbirth Educator through Baby Steps.

Her passion and goal as your Doula is to support you and your partner’s choices during pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Her clients can count on her to provide reliable and prompt service, support any birth choices.  Whether an unmedicated or medicated birth, located in a home or hospital, a planned cesarean or not, she looks forward to building a positive relationship with you, your family, and your care provider.

Welcoming a new baby is a joyful time but can likely be overwhelming. As a postpartum doula, Jessica will help work through any fears or anxiety. Her role as a Postpartum Doula is flexible and can change by each family’s specific needs. To ensure a smooth transition, she will help with feedings, meal prep, laundry, and more.

Testionial:  "After our first meeting with Jessica my husband and I took all of 3 seconds to decide we wanted to work with her. She asked us a lot of questions to get to know us and help us figure out how we wanted to approach the birth of our daughter. We loved her level-headed and positive attitude, and we left that first meeting feeling much more confident that we could do this.

Her support on the day of the birth was invaluable. From a very practical perspective, having an extra pair of hands in the room with us was fantastic and a great support to my husband. But she also brought a very positive, can-do presence into the room, which helped keep us all relaxed and confident. I credit some of her great suggestions during contractions for the speed of my labor (just 7 hours from first contraction to delivery) and for helping me give birth naturally. We could not have hoped for a better outcome. In addition, through it all she was very non-intrusive and let my husband take center stage as my primary support person.

In short, we could not have been happier with the whole experience. Hiring Jessica was one of the best decisions we've ever made. I've already referred her to two pregnant friends, and one of them has decided to work with her already." (Linda V.)

She is excited and honored to be part of such a special time, and personally inspired by the inner strength of all birthing mothers. Kathleen is currently working towards her certification as both a birth and postpartum doula with DONA International.

Testimonial: "Kathleen was exactly what we needed for our first birthing experience.  She has so much passion for her craft and is such an easy person to relate to that it made us actually look forward to the process.  I had a very long delivery but she was there with us every step of the way and didn't miss a beat.  It was so amazing to have her help in early labor to try different pain management methods, and it gave us so much security to know that she was there through the night when my husband needed a break.  Her constant support and knowledge combined with her warm personality made her an invaluable part of the birth of our son and I am so thankful to have had her for our first doula."  (Eva D.)

"Just wanted to say what an outstanding doula you have in Kathleen. From the first phone call to the home visits to laboring at the hospital, she was such a blessing to us! We don't know what we would have done without her!" (Michelle P.)

Patti Schultz, Postpartum Doula

Patti always knew that she adored babies and loved being with them, but it wouldn’t be until many years later that she discovered her calling as a postpartum doula.  Being able to help families get off to a great start with their new baby or growing family is one of her greatest joys.  She tailors her services to best meet the needs of the families she supports.  This includes breastfeeding education and support, baby care, soothing techniques, and baby wearing instruction in addition to meal prep, laundry, organizing and helping with siblings.

She is a CAPPA certified Postpartum Doula and has over 5 years experience of assisting families in this role.  She breastfed her own baby and used many of the comfort and soothing techniques with him that she teaches today.  It is a great gift to be asked to help a family as they begin their journey into parenthood.

Testimonial: "Patti was truly a lifesaver!  After giving birth a month early and as a first time mom, her calm, happy, and encouraging attitude were just what we needed.  I trusted her completely with our son. She went over and above what our expectations were of having a post-partum doula.  I only wish we could have had her longer!" (Jennifer... A very grateful mom!)

Quite simply, Patti is absolutely amazing! She is incredibly gentle and caring and was such a wonderful calming presence to have in the house in the midst of the chaos that a newborn brings. She was an absolute life saver in so many ways, really looking after me and my son and knowing instinctively exactly what we really needed. I really appreciate the wonderful guidance and advice offered (when I asked for it!) and her experience is very evident. My son absolutely loves her too - she has endless patience and such a warm and loving approach. She has been the perfect post partum doula for our family! (Sian E.)

Sherri Wilkerson, Labor Doula, Placenta Encapsulator and Lamaze Childbirth Educator

Sherri is a certified labor doula with DONA International and is a childbirth educator through Lamaze International. Drawing upon her background in education, Sherri understands how empowered her clients feel when they are informed about labor and birth.  She is passionate about helping moms have the birth they desire, as well as supporting their birth choices. Sherri counts it a joy and privilege to serve expectant mothers and families. Sherri has given birth to five of her own children, and she is well acquainted with the benefits and trade-offs of both natural and medicated births.  Sherri, her husband Rob, and their children live in Woodstock, and she is happy to serve any metro Atlanta area hospital.  She is also available for placenta encapsulation.

Testimonial: My husband and I met Sherri at a "doula mixer" early in my pregnancy. We set up a dinner date some weeks later and immediately knew we felt comfortable with her. I was so relieved to have someone who I was able to connect with, ask questions of, and feel support during pregnancy. Sherri is very knowledgable and has tons of experience (personal and professional). When my labor started I immediately called Sherri- she asked a few questions and said to call her whenever I felt ready for her to come to my home. I quickly felt I wanted her support and she was over shortly. She was very calming for me and my husband. One of the main reasons I wanted to have a  doula during my labor/birth was so I could have someone to relax/support my husband. She helped me find comfortable positions at home and allowed me to have the freedom to stay home as long as I felt comfortable. She allowed me to labor on my own without much intervening and then sometimes when needed she would help with pain or relaxing. We went to the hospital in the middle of the night. Sherri continued to be my support. She helped make me comfortable and helped with positioning. She would guide me during contractions- we used the squat bar, the yoga ball, and other pressure exercises. I would never go through labor and delivery again without the assistance of a doula. She is amazing. I am happy to answer any questions about Sherri, my experience, or anything else. Sherri has my contact information and I will use her again in a heartbeat when ready! (Ashley R.)
