Lumina Birth began in January 2008, under the name Decatur Doulas, in response to an obvious need for Atlanta couples to easily find local doulas, lactation specialists, and childbirth educators. Our name change in August 2009 reflects our growing list of birth services and desire to broaden the scope of those we serve – not just Decatur or neighborhoods on the east side of Atlanta, but all couples who live in and around the Atlanta area! Lumina Birth is co-directed by Lacy Henderson, CLD (CAPPA) and Jenn Purdy, CLD (CAPPA). Both are mothers of four children with a passion for empowering women and standing by them in their passage to motherhood. Lacy and Jenn bring together a group of childbirth professionals to provide an accessible way for couples to find needed support from someone nearby, and a place of connection to our partners and other birth resources throughout Atlanta.
Professional Membership and Apprenticeship with Lumina Birth
Are you considering becoming certified as a childbirth professional and need to apprentice to complete your certification? Are you passionate about birth and have an interest in exploring this field? Lumina Birth joins independent childbirth professionals into a supportive community. Each member is individually invited to be a part of the group. Our group is growing and changing all the time to help meet the needs of couples in the metro Atlanta area. We offer apprenticeship positions to women who are considering this work and need experience and mentoring. Apprentices may or may not become part of the Lumina Birth professional group. Contact Lacy and Jenn for an appointment.
Doulas for Refugees – Embrace
